Offering

What could we have brought to you
even if we had known
to which part of your desert
you had gone?
You were a God
and so your heart was strong
but your flesh must have suffered
as the days ran on.
Of course, we didn't see it yet:
we thought you were just a man.
And when we began to suspect,
we killed him.
